A specific advantage of the Volanta is that after installation, the water point can be further equiped with other water facilities like a public tap and laundry facilities. This picture shows an example from Lubango in Angola, where an UNICEF project implemeted many Volanta's to secure the water supply of that town in 1989. |

The clear
advantage of these facilities are the improved hygiene around the borehole
or dug-well.
Also users are much more motivated (especially in the peri-urban zone) to pay for more service. After use by the laundry (2), the water flows to an infiltration line, covered with tiles. Transpiration of the plants around the infiltration zone will improve the absorption capacity of the subsoil. Eventually, people can fill up a small water tank to take a shower in
the shower place (3). |

The construction of a Public Tap is important to improve the hygiene around the water point.. The recommended design has one water outlet on the front site (2a) and a large water drainage opening towards the back site (2b). The separation of these water flows is very important for good sanitairy conditions. The drainage line must be open and "V-shaped" to avoid blocking by sand and debris. |

The Volanta is very suitable to easy fill up a drinking water reservoir (1) for lifestock. Additional advantage is that the animals do not approach the site of the borehole. When large amounts of water are needed, the Volanta flywheel can be equiped with a solar powered or diesel powered system. |

top of a dug-wel (3) for improved hygiene, while the water is pumped to
a public tap (2)
In that case the dug-well can be closed for protection (3) and a chloride pot (4) can be lowered in the well for slow desinfection. In case of high demand, two Volanta's can be put on one dug-well, giving a total constant yield up to 3,0 m3 per hour, sufficient for over 2000 people per day. |
