Operation & Maintenance
Once installed, the Volanta is easy and very cheap to maintain due to the simple and efficient design.
Only small parts of the pump are subject to wear, but these parts are not critical for the functioning of the pump and can easily be replaced after a few years.
WatSan Consult has extensive experience in training maintenance groups with the installation and maintenance of the Volanta.
Maintenance costs:
The first years there will be, apart from some greasing of the strong bearings, no maintenance costs at all. After 3 to 5 years, the long term yearly contribution from the users will be in the order of 1 - 3 US$ per family per year. This ismainly to replace the small upper hanger bearing and some bushes in the pressure box. The sub-surface parts are in principle maintenance free.
Maintenance of the Volanta is optimal by a maintenance group that takes care of 25 to 50 Volanta's in an area. This can also be done by a local water company (as in Lubango, Angola) or by technicians from a Rural Health Centers, who can adopt the Volanta maintenance in their village health care program on a cost recovery base.
Spare parts are available from Jansen Venneboer B.V. and through JV country dealers.
